Kenneth Elza Tarter, 86, of Charlestown, IN, passed away on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, IN.

He was born on August 11, 1929 to Arthur and Nettie (Wilson) Tarter in Somerset, KY. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean War, a retired barber and owner of Ken’s Barber Shop in Jeffersonville, IN, member of the First Baptist Church in Sellersburg, IN, enjoyed golfing, gardening, marbles, sports fan, an avid UK fan, and loved his church. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Wanda Tarter, daughter, Deborah Hughes; brothers, Bobby, Jerry, and Lester Tarter; sisters, Vera Hicks, and Dana Humphrey.

Survivors include his daughters, Tammy Pierce (Gary) of New Albany, IN, and Melanie Beard (Melvyn) of Marysville, IN; sister, Ida Schoolcraft of Salem, IN; grandchildren, Dustin, Angela, Desiree, Emily, Jasmine, Donald, and Jason; great-grandchildren, Corgan, Riley, Marcus, Carter, Cadence, and Camden; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 12pm at the Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown, with burial to follow in the Charlestown Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday from 12pm to 8pm, and after 9am on Saturday.
