Rev. William E. Fenstermaker, 87, of Market Street, Schellsburg died at 10:40 a.m., Thursday, May 12th, 2011, at his home.
Rev. Fenstermaker was born in Oriole on Sunday, June 17, 1923, the son of the late Verus R. and Carrie (Cowher) Fenstermaker.
He is survived by sister Harriet Sweitzer, Jersey Shore; brother Jack Fenstermaker, Jersey Shore. Bill is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth Downin, Edith Farley and Helen Boyer and by one brother, Jesse Fenstermaker.
Bill served three years in the U.S. Army with the 36th Division Artillery during World War II. He received a personal citation from his Commanding General for bravery under fire.
He was a 1941 graduate of Jersey Shore High School and a 1949 graduate of Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Divinity. Bill then graduated from Drew Theological Seminary in 1952. He continued his graduate work at Gettysburg Theological Seminary and the Presbyterian Seminary in Pittsburgh. His has been a fully ordained Methodist Minister since 1952.

Fenstermaker has served as a Minister under these appointments: Associate Pastor at Asbury in Allentown, Pastor at Wind Gap, Pastor at Patton, Associate Pastor at Grace Church in Harrisburg, Pastor at Gettysburg, Associate Pastor at Mt. Lebanon Church and Pastor at Brookline United Methodist Church. He has held teaching positions and administrative posts in the Philadelphia Conference, the Central PA Conference and the Western PA Conference of the Methodist Church. He retired in 1985. After his retirement, Rev. Fenstermaker was a guest pastor at many local churches in Bedford County.
Bill served in Central Pennsylvania on the Board of Ministerial Training and as a Trustee for the Methodist Home for Children. He served in Western Pennsylvania as a Trustee for the Ward Home for Children. He was a member of the Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company.
Bill was an antique enthusiast. He opened an antique store in the former Presbyterian Church in Schellsbrug, where he also made his home. Bill was a seasoned traveler. Between the years of 1955 and 1963, he traveled throughout Europe, the Holy Lands, Mexico, Australia, East Africa and South America. Bill has traveled throughout the State of Pennsylvania lecturing and giving travelogues of his journeys.

A Committal Service will be held at Limestone Cemetery Nippenose Valley on Monday at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. James Weigley officiating.
