INMAN -- Oscar Lee Abernathy, 92, of 223 Jared Michael Court, Inman died Monday October 22, 2007 at Regional Hospice Home in Spartanburg. Born to the late Marion and Molly Roddy Abernathy on October 18, 1915, he was the widower of Lorene Bailey Abernathy. He was retired from Inman Mills and was a member of Inman Church of God of Prophecy. Over a thirty year time span, he and his late wife raised 262 foster children in their home.

He is survived by a son, Randall Abernathy of Woodruff; three daughters, Betty Ellenburg, Susie James and Patricia Ellenburg all of Inman; two sisters, Corene Cooley of Mayo and Gladys Lanis of Columbus, NC; two brothers, Baylus Abernathy of Color Jackson and Roy Abernathy of Lake Bowen; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Bill Abernathy and a brother, Robert Abernathy.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 7:00 PM at Inman Church of God of Prophecy conducted by Rev. Barry Looper and Rev. Lorraine Mullinax and prayer by Rev. Bruce Craig.

Serving as honorary escorts are Louie Ellenburg, Junior Brown, James, Jerry, and Keith Abernathy, and Michael Ellenburg.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends 6:00-7:00 PM Thursday at Inman Church of God of Prophecy.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, c/o SRHS Foundation, 101 East Wood Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
