Gilbert B. Dickey, of Monteagle, TN, a graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy, Vanderbilt University and Cumberland Law School, was a businessman in Nashville, Atlanta, and Ft. Lauderdale owning independent petroleum operations over a nine state area. He also owned marketing and advertising companies. He acquired controlling interests in several wholesale and retail distribution companies. These endeavors led him to land development and the formation of the Urban Company. Dickey took credit for marketing the first condominium in the US and the eventual sales of several billion dollars in condos. He was the marketing consultant for Peachtree City, Georgia as well as his own developments in Tennessee, Florida, and Georgia.

Gilbert is survived by his children Gilbert B. "Gib" Dickey III (Martha) of Atlanta, GA, William Hammond "Bill" Dickey (Becky) of Nashville, Robin Satyshur (Gary) of Nashville, Maris Davis (Mark) of Marietta, GA, and his sister Frances Dickey Fleming of Nashville. His grandchildren are Gil Dickey, IV and Neill Dickey of Atlanta and Laura Dickey Corey (Jack) of NYC, Eva Dickey of San Diego, California, William Dickey, Jr. of Nashville, Deeanna Dickey of Denver, Colorado, Ben Satyshur of Dallas, Texas, Elizabeth Davis of Atlanta, Georgia, Angela Davis of Carrollton, Georgia, and Murphy Davis of Marietta, Georgia. He remained the closest of friends with Eva Hammond Dickey Warren, of Nashville, his former wife.

Those closest to him remember him as brilliant and innovative.
