Tommie Lee Allen, Jr. was born to parents Tommie Lee Allen, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Allen on January 29, 1936 in Valley Mills, Texas. He attended elementary and junior high schools in Valley Mills and graduated from A. J. Moore High School in 1954 in Waco, Texas. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Valley Mills and was ordained an
Elder at the age of 18.

After graduation, Tommie enlisted in the United States Army. He completed his Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri and was stationed in Germany for three years. He was honorably discharged from service in 1957. Upon completing his service, he enrolled at Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then went on to teach at Prairie View and Dunbar High School in Temple, Texas for two years.

In 1965, after returning from the University of Utah, he accepted employment as the third black person hired as a Texas State Parole officer. In 1966, he earned a Masters of Education degree in Guidance Counseling from Prairie View A&M, and began working with the Texas Rehabilitation Commission. Tommie's subsequent employment was at Texas
Southern University as Associate Dean of Students, the University of Houston as a Psychological Counselor, and as Director of Upward Bound.
He served as Director of the Education Opportunity Program at California State University-Los Angeles.

In 1983, he relocated to Houston, and on December 30, 1985, he married the love of his life, whom he'd met three
years earlier in Los Angeles.

He retired as Supervisor with the Texas
Department of Criminal Justice, Parole Division where he made many lasting friendships.

Tommie lived life to the fullest, and was passionate about all of his endeavors. He once owned a construction company, managed nightclubs and owned a restaurant with his best friend and cousin. His compassion for all people and desire to give back to his community was felt in Los
Angeles where he served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Marcus Garvey Schools, in Houston where he served as Vice President of the Westbury Civic Club, and in Valley Mills where he worked tirelessly to chronicle the history of the Sadler family in "Our Heritage from 1820
to the New Millennium" in 2002, and was honorary chairperson of the Rock Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church Committee.

Tommie departed this life on November 25, 2014. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Tommie and Sarah Allen; brother, Ronnie Jack; and sister, Florraine. He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife; two sons; five brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren;
three great-grandchildren; mother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
