Brown, Elizabeth Marie 1933 ~ 2013 LA MESA -- Elizabeth Marie Brown of La Mesa, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away June 15 surrounded by her family. She was 80. Betty was born and raised in Punxsutawney, Penn. After beginning her career at the Pentagon, Betty married Kenneth Gordon Brown in 1958, in Virginia. Immediately after the wedding, Gordon and Betty moved to Southern California, where they started their family. Betty has been an active member of the Santa Sophia Parish Community since 1967 and lovingly served as Pastoral Associate of the parish for 22 years. Betty is survived by her children Michael, Malcolm, and Meredith, and her grandchildren Leah, Violet, Zoe, Sophia, and Sebastian. Betty is also survived by her brothers Joseph and Stephen. On July 17 at Santa Sophia Church in Spring Valley, a rosary for Betty will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. with Mass at 10:30 a.m. and a reception following in Prendergast Hall. Interment of ashes will take place in Pennsylvania. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her name be sent to St. James Catholic School, 4651 Dunsmore Ave., La Crescenta, CA 91214.
