Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Nina B. Livingston Franks, 93, of Aztec, N.M., a former resident of Portales, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2006, in Aztec. She was born in Wingate, Tex., on November 8, 1912, to James and Myrtle Livingston.
Nina came to New Mexico in a covered wagon and lived most of her life in Portales, where she graduated high school. She and her husband owned grocery stores in Fort Sumner and Portales for a number of years. She was a painter and an author after retiring from the grocery business. Her six inspirational books entitle "The Best To You" have touched hearts all over the globe. Her paintings hang in many banks and private collections throughout the southwest.
Nina loved her family and sang in the church choir. She was baptized in her teens and had a deep faith in God.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Omar Livingston; her husband, N.B. Franks; and a son, Delbert L. Franks.
Nina is survived by her daughter, Betty Polston Payne and husband, Paul; two grandsons, David L. Polston and Derald Polston and wife, Rene'; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2006, at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Portales with Dr. Don H. Wiley officiating.
Interment will be at Portales Cemetery.
