Sylvia Sommer Gershowitz, 90, passed away in El Paso October 3, 2010.

She was born July 31, 1920 to Oscar and Laura Sommer in Brownsville, Texas. After 81 years in Brownsville, she moved up north to El Paso to be with her daughter and son after the death of her beloved husband of 56 years, Alex. Her petite stature and strong heart impressed all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her three children Jerald Gershowitz, Arlene Sonnen Jon and Marvin Gershowitz and five grandchildren, Josh and Daniel Sonnen, and Seth, Bess, and Hannah Gershowitz. She is also survived by her siblings Ray Leonard, Marcel Sommer Sonnie and Shirley Supovitz Edwin as well as many loving nieces and nephews and their children.

She is preceded in death by her parents and dear siblings: Mildred Whitman, and David and Sidney Sommer.

A Graveside Service will be held at 9:30 on Friday, Oct. 8 at the Hebrew Cemetery in Brownsville with Cantor Henry Greenspan officiating.

Services are entrusted to DarlingMouser Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Temple Beth El, 24 Coveway Dr. Brownsville, TX 78521
