He was married about 1898 to Laura Ollie Blunkall (1884-1953), the daughter of Robert Armstrong Blunkall (1855-1945) and Laura A (Kinsey) Blunkall (1862-1888).
A farmer in rural Whites Creek, Davidson County, James was 72 years old and married when he died at home of a coronary thrombosis on August 12, 1953. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
