A son of Wilson and Sophia (nee Armstrong) Argue who lived in the Goulbourn District near present day Ottawa. His mother died in 1879 followed by his father in 1880, both of tuberculosis. The seven children lived with relatives after their parents' deaths. James eventually moved to work for his cousins near Clearwater Manitoba and married Maud Heatherington of Cartwight Manitoba in 1902. The family moved to Lemburg SK in 1906 where they operated a restaurant and later the post office. A family biography is found in the local history book "Echoes from the Past" (Lemberg and District History Book Committee, 1990, p 254 to 255).

Four children were born to James and Maud:

James' grandparents are buried in Stittsville, Ontario: William Argue and Margaret Smith Argue.
