Hubert W. Bell, 80, died Monday, January 1, 2007, at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born on March 22, 1926, in Franklin County, he was the son of the late Jasper and Amer Elrod Bell. He lived in Atlanta for 25 years and retired from Simmons Mattress Company as a machinist, where he was the president of the local union and was an International Vice-President representing the bedding workers. He had lived in Colbert for the last 34 years and had retired from Peterson American Corporation in Athens. Mr. Bell was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II, and was a member of the Colbert Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years; one daughter; one granddaughter; sisters, Ossie Bell, Comer, Mildred Baker, Colbert, Bernice Cothran, Snellville; brothers, B.T. Bell, Royston, Ray Bell, Hartwell, Charles Bell, Hull; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 3, in the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Fuller officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Memorial Park.
