Gilman -- Mrs. Cynthia O'Connell, wife of Patrick O'Connell, a prominent farmer of Green Castle township, died at the family residence Tuesday night at 12 o'clock of inflammatory rheumatism.

Mrs. O'Connell came with her husband to the county from Lanark, Illinois, and located in Legrand in 1868 and the next year moved to a farm near the present site of Gilman and Mr. O'Connell went to work on the construction of the Iowa Central [railroad]. After the completion of the road he moved onto the farm about five miles northwest of town, where they have ever since resided.

Mrs. O'Connell has been a great sufferer from inflammatory rheumatism for the past ten years and death with its surcease of pain was an angel of mercy instead of a king of terrors.

Mrs. O'Connell was 73 years of age and leaves a husband, one son, and two daughters to mourn her loss.
