Mrs. Julius Wilke, 83 Thursday, May 9, 1946
Mrs. Julius Wilke, nee Anna Bondina Miller, was born at Marathon, Marathon county, Wisconsin, in 1863, and passed away at her home near Embarras on Thursday, May 9, 1946, at 8:10 a.m. at the age of 83 years.
When still a child, she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Miller, to Wittenberg (at that time still a vast wilderness) and was the first white child to come here with her parents, who conducted the first boarding house in Wittenberg. She was married to Julius Wilke March 17, 1903, at Wittenberg and lived most of the time round about this community until recent years. When her health failed she made her home with her son, Edward Wilke, where she succumbed after four years of illness.
She leaves to mourn her passing: Her husband, three daughters, one step-daughter, two step-sons, namely, Mrs. Nellie Hawkins, Portland, Oregon; (Clara) Mrs. Roy Gustafson, Wittenberg; Mrs. Martha Roeder, Chicago, Illinois; Edward Wilke, Clintonville; Otto, Marion; Rudolph, New London; (Rosa) Mrs. Frank Giessel, Shawano; three children proceded her in death, Sophia and Lydia, who died in infancy, and one son, John Holford, who died just last August. Of her brothers and sisters, nine preceded her in death. Two brothers survive, Conrad Miller, of Whitehall, Montana, and Leonard Miller of Wittenberg; besides 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
