Lige's date of birth (which was probably taken from a family Bible) and place of burial were originally posted by a Donald Adkisson on RootsWeb.com (this information was acquired by me in March 2003). Lige would have died sometime between 1930 and 1940; he wasn't living when his daughter, Annie, applied for a delayed birth certificate in 1942. (Annie was living in Williams, Oklahoma, in 1942. She had been born on November 25, 1899, in Cove [Rhea County], Tennessee.)

Lige married Ruth Amanda Coulter on May 30, 1891, in Rhea County, Tennessee. They were living in Rhea County when the 1900 Census was taken (name: "Elijah Atkinson"). Four children, Charles (8), Willie (6), Jennie (4), and Anna (7 months) were in the household, as well as a 13-year-old niece, Ruth Cunningham.

A year after Ruth's July 1905 death (probably from childbirth complications since an infant son, Carl, preceded her in death), Lige married Annie Hurd on September 11, 1906, in Sebastian County, Arkansas; both he and Annie were living in Bonanza at the time of their marriage. When the 1910 Census was taken, Lige and Annie were living in Marion, Arkansas, also in Sebastian County (name: "Elija Adkins"). His and Ruth's children, Charlie (18), Willie (17), Jennie (14), Annie E. (10), and Robert (8) were in the household, in addition to Lige's 9-year-old step-son, Walter Raymond.

When the 1920 Census was taken, Lige was widowed and living in Cameron, Oklahoma, in Le Flore County (name: "Eliga Adkison"). His daughter and son, Annie (20) and Robert (16), were the only children in the household.

Lige was still living in the same location when the 1930 Census was taken (name: "E. E. Adkinson"), but he was living with his daughter, Annie (30), son-in-law, "Linsie" (i.e., Lindsey) Wright (35), and 4-year-old grandson, Carl. (He was listed as "married," which was evidently an oversight.)
