Worcester - Robert A. Archambeault, 85, entered heaven on July 14th. He spent the last 7 weeks on the hospice program at Jewish Healthcare Center after 5 months of palliative treatment for esophageal cancer. Bob said goodbye to his beloved wife of 66 years, 7 months and 24 days, Margaret "Maggie" Archambeault. Bob kept daily count of the length of his marriage until his last day here. He will be greatly missed by his family: daughters Janice Rau (wife of the late Everett "Chuck" Rau) and Joan Archambeault; four granddaughters and their husbands: Daniel & Carolyn (Bourassa) Wilcomb, Brian & Laura (Bourassa) Grinnan, Shawn & Jennifer (Rau) O'Connell, Steve & Linda (Rau) Cammuso, and grandson Joseph Rau; as well as seven great grandchildren: Brayden, Carter and Spencer Wilcomb; Madeline, Micah and Mason Grinnan; and Julia Cammuso. Bob was born in Southbridge, MA and was pre-deceased by his parents and siblings. He and Maggie were married November 20th, 1948 in Southbridge, MA and moved to Worcester in 1960.
Bob had a simple philosophy and lived a life of no regrets. When diagnosed with incurable cancer, he told family, friends and caretakers that he had done everything he wanted to do in life and was ready to go home if it was his time. His strong faith in Jesus Christ gave him great peace and contentment that was evident to everybody who spent time with him and greatly impacted us all. Before failing eyesight took away his ability to drive, Bob owned and operated Bob's Tool Service for 50 years and was known as "Bob the Tool Man." He was active in church ministries putting in countless hours of service but was perhaps best known as Church Treasurer and "The Gum Man." Bob became a neighborhood icon known for keeping the street clean of leaves, snow and debris and visiting his neighbors. As Dad, Grandpa and Great Grandpa, he was second to none. Memories include vacations, trips to the lake, fireworks, picnics, overnights, cookouts, yard sales, drive-ins, Saturday morning breakfast, ice cream outings and summer evenings swimming at the pond. His wife was his "sweetheart" and best friend. He loved to spend time with Maggie on vacations, long rides in the country, dining out, attending church, opening their home to friends and missionaries and spending quiet days at home. A celebration of his life will be held on August 1st at 11:00 AM at Charlton Baptist Church, 50 Hammond Hill Rd. Charlton MA, with a luncheon reception following. Please join us as we celebrate the life of our beloved husband, Dad and Grandpa. No flowers; donations can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Charlton Baptist Church. The Shaw-Majercik Funeral Home, 48 School St., Webster, MA has been entrusted with the arrangements. A guest book is available at www.shaw-majercik.com where you may post a condolence or a memory.
