Dr. Allan Napier Kerr was born in New Brunswick, Canada on October 19, 1874, the son of John and Margaret (McNeill) Kerr. Before entering the medical college, he studied medicine with Dr. Samuel C. Johnson of Hudson, WI at the Hudson Sanitarium for seven years. He then attended and graduated from Wisconsin College of Physicians and Surgeons of Milwaukee in 1903. He began his practice in Martell, WI after graduation and was the president of Pierce County Medical Society for three years. He married May Elizabeth Hughes in 1909. In 1912, the Kerr's moved to California and subsequently had two children: Jane born in 1914 and Allan born in 1917. Tragically in 1924, his daughter Jane lost her life, along with 22 other children and 1 staff member in the Hope Development School Fire. While living in California, Dr. Kerr served as a captain of the US Army Medical Corps during WWI and later was Medical Officer with the Veteran's Administration for twenty years.
