Ethelbert (Howard) Private for the Canadian Army Service Corps Service # 5157 was 20 years old when he past. After the war he stayed in Bonn. Germany for reconstruction of the city. Living in the worst condition (wet/cold), he developed a bad cold becoming TB. He was taken to Woolwich England living in the TB hospital t for months. The hospital was designed by Florence Nightingale, the only way they had to try "cure" was to give patients lots of sun, fresh air and good food. Of course there were no antibiotics at the time. He was sent home on a military medical boat and his greatest fear was dying on the way back being buried at sea. He had seen others slip over the side of the ship after they died. He lived at the King George Hospital in WPG for 5 days before he died. King George was then considered for it's time one of the most modern isolation hospitals in the world. A key facility for the Spanish Flue of 1919. Polio in the 1950's and 60's It was for cronic Illnesses. The four story two winged hospital was demolished in 1999 and now the Riverview Health Centre. The original entrance that stands as a memorial. Howard had a full military funeral buried with his Nugent family in the Sanford Cemetery. He always sent home to his mom half his millitary salary all the years he was away, according to his millitary will left her everything he had. He was a precious son and beloved brother.
