Joseph Frye of Francis Creek Dies of Injuries


Joseph Frye, 62, of Francis Creek, died at the Holy Family hospital this afternoon of injuries sustained when he fell from an ice hoist at the Pauly and Pauly warehouse in the village at 1 p.m.

Frye had been assisting in packing ice into the warehouse and had just returned from lunch when the accident occurred. As the hoist neared the top of the pulley, Frye riding on the platform, fell off. His back was broken in a fall of between 20 and 25 feet.

Frye was taken to the hospital in Manitowoc by Charles Chizek and Clarence Hutter.

Frye is survived by his widow, the former Elizabeth Marsch, and three daughters, Mrs. Hugo Greuel of Francis Creek, Mrs. Melvin Heier of Shoto and Eleanor, at home.

Funeral plans will be announced Saturday.

Funeral services for Joseph Frye, 64, Kossuth farmer who was fatally injured Friday afternoon in an accident at Francis Creek will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home, the Rev. C. H. Phipps officiating. Burial will be in the National cemetery at Francis Creek.

Mr. Frye sustained a broken back and other injuries when he fell 20 feet from a hoist at the Pauly and Pauly Company ice house at Francis Creek early Friday afternoon. The hoist was used to lift workmen to the upper levels of the building. He died an hour later at the Holy Family hospital.

Coroner Theodore Teitgen announced there would be no inquest.

Mr. Frye was born in Glenmore, Brown county, in 1877 and in 1901 married Miss Libbie Maresch in this city. They located on a farm in Kossuth. He was a member of the Z.C.B.J. lodge of Melnik.

Survivors are the widow; three daughters, Mrs. Hugo Greuel and Miss Eleanor of Francis Creek, Mrs. Melvin Heier of Shoto; six sisters, Mrs. Barbara Youra of this city, Mrs. Joseph Hanek of Denmark, Mrs. Michael Wagner of Kansas City, Mrs. Ed. Klaus of Green Bay, Mrs. Charles Fligel of Rice Lake, Mrs. Anna Wagner of Kossuth; two brothers, Charles and George of Green Bay.

The body may be viewed at the funeral home from this evening until the hour of services Monday.
