Alex was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in WWII from 1945 - 1947 on the USS Philippine Sea expedition to the South Pole with Admiral Byrd. He worked for Ready Mix Concrete, Simon Excavating and Michigan/Wisconsin Pipeline.
He was a member of the Holy Family Parish, Vintage Aircraft Association, EAA Antique Classic, Harley Owners Group (HOG), Experimental Aircraft Association, Inc., Deputy Sheriff Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, USS Philippine Sea Association, EAA of Oshkosh, EAA Chapter 572 of Fond du Lac, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Fraternal order of Eagles #270, Midwest Antique Airplane Club, Oakfield VFW, and Par-A-Riders Motorcycle Club. Alex loved Harley's, old vehicles, especially his '67 Ford Mustang, morning Hardee Buddies, and spending winters in Florida. He also loved flying his plane the "Yellow Bird". He enjoyed being with family and friends. Alex always had a smile and a joke; his wit put a smile on faces of all who knew him. The Town of Fond du Lac purchased Alex's land and built Simon Riverview Park.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ambrose, Francis (Joan) and Robert (Delores); two sisters, Elvira (Ed) Dubberstein and Cresence Marggi; one brother-in-law, Ralph Basler; two nieces; special friends, Virginia (Toots) Semenas and Eunice Harrington.
Entombment will be held at 9:30 AM on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Shrine of Rest Mausoleum, Ledgeview Memorial Park.
