Born Nov. 25, 1933, in Peoria to Roy Edward and Amy Jane Gardner Applegren, he married Theresa J. Ricca on Nov. 29, 1952, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Mark (and Susan) of Peoria; two daughters, Mary (and Rick) Pratt of La Crescent, Minn., and Nancy (and Ken) Darling of Mesa, Ariz.; one brother, Edward (and Angela) of Bartonville; two sisters, Amy Applegren of East Peoria and Eileen (and Robert) Keenan of Morton; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Rob in 1992; and one sister.
He was an Army veteran, serving in the Signal Corps from 1954 to 1956.
A member of Illinois Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 34, he was an electrician, retiring in 1996 after 26 years.
He had worked as a maintenance electrician at Hiram Walker & Sons in Peoria for 15 years.
He also had worked as a mail carrier in Peoria for the U.S. Postal Service for 17 years.
He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church in Peoria, where services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Francis Gallagher will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wilton Mortuary. Cremation will be accorded.
Memorials may be made to his church or to West Peoria Volunteer Fire Department.
