Enlisted, July 25, 1917, in Troop B, Squadron A Cavalry, New York City. Squadron A reorganized for the World War as the 105th Machine Gun Battalion, 27th Division. He was assigned to Company A then transferred to Headquarters Company. After training at Camp Wadsworth, SC, the 105th Machine Gun Battalion deployed to Europe, on May 18, 1918, aboard the USS Calomares. He saw combat in both Belgium & France and awarded he Silver Star, S.O. # 49, 27th Division. Return to the States, March 6, 1919, aboard the USS Leviathan, docking at Hoboken, NJ. He marched in the great " Welcome Home Parade " for the 27th Division, up 5th Avenue, in New York City, on March 25th 1919. Discharged from the service, April 1, 1919, at Camp Upton, NY.

Silver Star, order # S.O. 49, 27th Division " For courage and devotion to duty on the night of October 16, 1918, in locating under heavy shell fire and gas concentration the units of his battalion for the purpose of delivering important message in connection with the attack for the following morning ".
