S. Paul Jones, 86, of Lawrence Park, residing at Springhill Community, died Jan. 7, 2006, at Hamot Medical Center. He was born June 2, 1919, in Woodsfield, the son of the late Samuel and Edith Jones.

He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, where he had served as Trustee, Elder and Deacon. He was a member of Monroe Lodge No. 189 F&AM, Woodsfield, 8-10 Investment Club, Koinonia of Erie County, a 40 year member of Lawrence Park Twp. Zoning Hearing Board, an active member of the Eastside YMCA, former member of the Lion’s Club, past president of Iroquois PTA, and a founding member of Fleet 8 Mirror Dinghy Sailing Club.

He was a research chemist with General Electric Co. for 38 years, retiring in 1984, and was awarded three patents through GE. He was an avid sports fan, playing baseball in the baseball in the Glenwood Baseball League and the American Legion Team, and baseball and basketball with the GE Teams. He was a graduate of Muskingum College, New Concord, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in World War II.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Janet Jones; three daughters and their husbands, a brother of Phoenix, Arizona; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends were received Jan. 10 at Dusekas Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Jan. 11 at First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, with Rev. Dr. Steven M. March officiating. Burial followed with full military services at Lakeside Cemetery conducted by Erie Crawford County Burial Vets Detail.
