He bought 80 acres of land 8 miles northeast of Abbeville in Henry County, AL in September 1849. His family appears in the Henry 1850 census, and adding a new son, Jason.
In September 1853, Zeno bought 40 acres in Lincoln Parish, LA, about 2 miles northeast of the town of Vienna, and moved the family there. By about 1856, he had another daughter Nora Victoria, and by September 1856 he had purchased 240 more acres there, probably with proceeds from the estate of Zeno’s father-in-law, James Wilson, who was murdered in Muscogee GA by James Jordan in 1851. Zeno and Melinda were given $354.70 in April 1855 from his estate.
Then came the Civil War, and Zeno was assigned in 1861 to Camp Moore just south of Kentwood, LA as a Private in Company H of the 12th Louisiana Infantry. By 1862, the family was in Monroe, LA where son Shelton Dozier was born in April 1862. Son Henry Thomas married Martha Colvin in 1864. The Colvin family lived in the large parcel next to the Roland family parcel near Vienna, LA. Son Parham Zeno was born in Nov 1865. By 1867, Zeno’s family had moved farther north to Union Parish, LA where son Edward was born.
By 1870, Zeno had moved the family to Hickman Township in Scott County AR, known today as the town of Waldron. In July 1873, Zeno purchased 160 acres on the western side of Waldron, AR. By 1880, Zeno and Malinda had moved farther east to Riley District in Yell County, AR, near what is now Havana, AR. They may have moved to Riley as early as 1874. Daughter Nora Victoria married John Milton Lawrence there in Nov 1874. Neither Zeno nor Malinda’s gravesites have been located, but they are likely in Yell County based on this last residence. Their last appearance is in the 1880 census in Riley Township, Yell County, AR.
