A 31 year old Chambersburg area man was killed last night when his motorcycle ran off the road and struck a telephone pole in St. Thomas Township.

Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, said Andrew Daniel Shearer, R. R. 3, was traveling north on the St. Thomas-Edenville Road when the accident occurred at 11:35 p.m.

Shearer's motorcycle traveled off the east berm of the road. He lost control of the bike and struck a telephone pole and guy wire, police said.

He was thrown from the motorcycle and died of a compound fracture of the skull, according to Deputy Franklin County Coroner Kenneth L. Peiffer Jr. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, one half mile north of U.S. 30, by Peiffer.

Mr. Shearer was born Jan. 6, 1949, in Chambersburg, son of Mrs. Catherine Shearer, 5246 Greenvillage Road, and the late Andrew D. Shearer. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. The AMVETS, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Shearer was a plumber by trade, and was employed by N.E. Diffenderfer Inc. for the past 10 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sandra Lehman Shearer, a son, Andrew D. Shearer Jr., a daughter, Joey Lee Shearer, both at home, a sister, Mrs. Larry (Frances) Highlands, 549 Center St., three brothers, Earl D. Shearer, 2759 Fisher Road, George T. Shearer, 5246 Greenvillage Road, and James E. Shearer, Maple Street, Mont Alto.
