Robert G. Near

CUBA - Robert G. "Bob" Near, 88, of 503 Route 446, passed away Wednesday (Nov. 11, 2015) at The Pines Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Olean, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on Oct. 10, 1927, in Bradford, Pa., he was the son of George and Genevieve Seeker Near. Bob was married for 53 years to Martha L. Henry, who predeceased him on March 17, 2011.

He was a United States Army veteran, serving in World War II as an ambulance driver and surgeon's assistant. Bob was a member of the Laborers Union Local 621 and took great pride in his masonry work for various construction companies, and retired from Bradley Builders in Olean. Bob enjoyed working in his yard, gardening and watching the Buffalo Bills, but mostly spending time with his family and visiting with his friends.

Surviving are three daughters, Bobbi (John) Koehler of Brockport, Jennifer (Donald) Baldwin of Cuba and Rhonda (Mark) Gross of Cuba; a stepson, James (Peggy) Daugherty of Hinsdale; a stepdaughter, Leslie (Paul Moran) Weaver of Rochester; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Bellville Cemetery, town of New Hudson.
