John W. Gelhausen, age 70, of 2446 Paul Road, Manitowoc, died peacefully Thursday afternoon, November 12, 2015 at Aurora Medical Center of Manitowoc County.He was born on January 19, 1945 in Manitowoc, son of the late John H. & Elizabeth (Humm) Gelhausen. John was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, Class of 1963. He served in the United States Air Force in Japan, receiving his honorable discharge in 1968. On October 11, 1969 he married the love of his life Barbara E. Londo at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers. John was employed at Manitowoc County Dairy Herd Improvement as a field technician for 42 years. Throughout his life, John was an active member of his church, serving as a lector, choir member and usher. John and Barb co-chaired the Home School Association at St. Andrew Grade School and the summer bingo sessions at Roncalli High School for the music department. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed camping, woodworking, yard work and tinkering. He was an avid shopper of Fleet Farm and could tell you exactly where an item was located in the store. Survivors include his wife: Barbara Gelhausen, Manitowoc; his children and their spouses: Becky & David Hinchley, Zumbrota, MN, Jake & Katrina Gelhausen, Peoria, IL., Greta & Russ Schwerma, Manitowoc; six grandchildren: Abby, Kaitlyn and Stanley Hinchley, Dillon, Emalyse and Natalie Gelhausen; one sister: Jill LeBarron, Chetek, WI.; two nephews: Jason and Brodie Lang; three brothers-in-law: Peter Londo, Madison, Paul Londo, Two Rivers, Tim Londo, Two Rivers; and seven sisters-in-law and six brothers-in-law: Linda Londo, Manitowoc, Peggy & Richard Wiedmeyer, Glenbeulah, WI., Pat & Dale Smith, Two Rivers, Ann & Greg Wolf, Manitowoc, Noelle & Otis Huff, Fayetteville, NC, Julie & Rodney Davenport, Copperas Cove, TX; and Mary & Steve Massey, Two Rivers. Other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Lizbeth Londo, his father-in-law and mother-in-law: James & Rita Londo; and an infant nephew: Blanden Lang.Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 16, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall (1114 S. 21st Street), Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier. Military Rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Otto Oas Post #659 at Calvary Mausoleum Monday afternoon. Cremation will occur after the service at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and John will be laid to rest at Calvary Mausoleum, Manitowoc, at a later date.
