ABALYAN, Kolya Artemovich passed away in Boston on July 27, 2014. He was 85. He was born in Artsakh on April 16, 1929, and grew up in a family of three sisters and one brother. As a young man, he served for three years in the Soviet Army. Later he settled in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he had a long and successful career as a carpenter. In the wake of anti-Armenian programs in Baku in the late 1980s, he moved with his family to Armenia and settled in Masis. He enjoyed tending to his large garden at the foot of Mount Ararat. In 1998, he moved to the United States and settled in Unionville, Conn. Most recently he moved to Watertown, Mass. He continued his love of gardening in his newfound homeland, fondly planting fruit trees and vegetable patches. He is survived by his beloved wife Knarik; three childrenGaren, Aleksandr, and Marina Abalyan; and seven grandchildren
