Mrs. Bernice V. Brown
Mrs. Bernice V. Brown, 84, formerly of 2803 Prairie Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, at a Topeka hospital.
Mrs. Brown taught in Saline County schools and later owned and operated the Travers Real Estate Agency until she retired.
She was born Oct. 3, 1900, near Lebo, the daughter of Charles L. and Laura Evelyn Smith Melvin. She was graduated from Larned High School and Emporia Normal Training School.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Rebekah Lodge more than 30 years.
Her husband Lee Brown, died Nov. 1, 1962.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Louise Loberg, Mrs. Grace Ross and Mrs. Joyce Ann Davis, all of Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Elma Cook, Topeka; two brothers, Lyle L. Melvin Sr., Salina, and John S. Melvin, Calimesa, Calif.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and foster grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Topeka Cemetery. Mrs. Brown will lie in state from noon Thursday until 9:30 a.m. Friday at Brennan Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association of Kansas, 4300 Drury Lane, P.O. Box No 4426, Topeka, 66604.
