CALCUTTA – Harry O. Morris, of Calcutta-Smith Ferry Road, passed away at home surrounded by his family Saturday evening, November 14, 2015. He was 86.
Born in Pine Grove, West Virginia, August 29, 1929, he was a son of the late Albert and Maggie Duncan Morris. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
A member of Longs Run Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder and the grounds keeper at one time, he was a resident of this area most of his life. For 37 ½ years he worked at the former Crucible Steel Company until his retirement in 1982. He was a charter member of the Calcutta Lions Club where he enjoyed playing Santa Claus and participating in the Lions' minstrel shows.
He loved his family; he supported his children and grandchildren and always followed their activities. To many, he was best known as a friendly face on the bench at the former Hills and Ames Department Stores and Walmart in Calcutta.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie "Darlyne" Mackey Morris, at home. The couple married November 30, 1963.
He also leaves his four children: two daughters, Jana Morris Keuper and her husband, Tim, of East Liverpool, and Paula Morris Winnett and her husband, Kevin, of Calcutta; and two sons, Harry "Buzzy" Morris and his wife, Terri, of Olympia, Washington, and Shayne Morris and his wife, Stephanie, of Suffolk, Virginia.
Also left to cherish his memory are 12 grandchildren: Janele Williams Spann, Anthony Williams, Pamela Keuper Schul, Amanda Winnett Phillips, Olivia McClellan, Marcus McClellan, Gregory Morris, Melissa Morris, Osten Morris, Mackenzie Morris, Seth Morris and K.D. Morris; and 18 great-grandchildren.
