Jimmy Loyd "Jim" Stanley died surrounded by family and loved ones at his home on November 11, 2015 in Castle Hills, Texas at the age of 83. Jim is survived by his wife Maria L. Stanley. He is additionally survived by his first wife's children: Delbart Poindexter (Laura) of Boerne, Tx; Danis Garcia of Comfort, Tx; thier children together: Frank Stanley (Paula) of San Antonio, Tx; De'Anna Marksowski (Mark) of La Vernia, Tx; Jimmie Carol of La Vernia, Tx; and stepson, Rene Castillo of San Antonio, Tx; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Jim was born on December 24, 1931 in Picher, Oklahoma to Frank Marion Stanley and Ethel Pearl (Cox) Stanley. Jim attended Picher Christian Church and accepted Christ at an early age. While growing up in Picher Jim displayed an early desire to be his own boss; at age 10 he began repairing broken bicycles. He worked at a local Safeway store. Jim attended Picher High School and played football for the Picher High Gorillas. He graduated in May 1949 at the head of his class. Jim then enlisted in the US Navy, first attending the naval electrical engineering school in Tennessee. Upon graduation Jim was stationed at Corpus Christi Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Tx. While serving in the Navy Jim also attended Corpus Christi Junior College and worked part time for the local Bonham Foods grocery store in Corpus Christi, Tx. Upon discharge from the Navy in 1955 Jim enrolled at the University of Texas to complete his education. While attending school he worked for H.E. Butt Grocery Company and was accepted into their Management Training Program. Jim graduated with a Bachelors of Business Administration in 1957. After graduation, Jim returned to Corpus Christi, Tx and managed several stores for H.E.B. until being transferred to San Antonio, Tx. In San Antonio he managed H.E.B. #20 on Fredericksburg Rd. From there Jim was promoted to Produce Supervisor and next to District Manager over half the stores in San Antonio. He was active in numerous other projects including developing and implementing the store productivity program for approximately 125 stores company wide. In 1973, Jim along with two partners John Dieterle (San Antonio) and Art Guerra (San Antonio) started their own chain of supermarkets: Super S Foods. Their first store was at 3046 East Commerce in San Antonio. Against all odds they developed a highly successful chain of supermarkets spreading across central and south Texas. The company grew to over 56 stores when in 1992 Jim retired from the grocery business as Chairman of the Board. Jim continued in business starting Maria Investments, a real estate development company. Maria Investments develops and holds both residential and commercial properties in and around San Antonio. Jim was an avid outdoorsman, loving to hunt and fish. As with everything else in his life Jim would use these adventures to strengthen the bonds with his friends and loved ones. Jim Stanley was rare. He was a true success with much to teach and much to show in his walk with God. While in San Antonio, Jim attended San Pedro Church of Christ and thought of it as his second home. Jim will be remembered for his honesty and loyalty with all who knew him. He will be missed but never forgotten.
