Betty Louise Stroupe, 91, beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother passed away in Texarkana, Texas on Saturday, November 14, 2015. Betty was born January 9, 1924, in Ashland, Kentucky.

As a young woman she moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she met and married her husband of almost 60 years, Andy R. Stroupe. As a military family, they lived in many different places -- including Virginia, California, and Guam -- before settling in Texarkana in 1959, where she would spend the rest of her life.

Betty took great pride in the care of her family and home. An avid gardener, for years she and Andy maintained a vegetable garden more than an acre large. Countless hours were spent on their front porch shelling peas and shucking corn. Betty also like to travel, a habit surely acquired during her life as a military wife. Over the years, she and Andy took a multitude of road trips to visit family and friends throughout the United States. Further, Betty was a devoted caregiver, caring for Andy until his death from Alzheimer’s in 2003.

Betty will be especially remembered for her generosity, quick wit, selflessness, and the tenaciousness of spirit that allowed her to endure. Her family will forever cherish her memory and the many happy years spent together.

Survivors include her children, Jean Arnold, Linda Knarr, Andy Stroupe and wife, Debbie; grandchildren, T.L Arnold Jr., Traci Read and husband, Wes, Toni Brooks and husband, Brandon, Kristen Roberts, Suzanne Carroll and husband, Todd, Robert Stroupe and wife, Ashley great grandchildren, Victoria and Brandon Brooks, Hannah Grace and Madelynn Carroll, Nathaniel Roberts, and Emma Stroupe. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Andy and her son-in-law, T.L. Arnold Sr.

Services will be held at 1 o’clock, Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Chapelwood Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.
