Services for Arthur Ernest “Art” Schuman, 88, Lawrence, will be 3 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be 1 p.m., Tuesday at Bethel Cemetery near Abilene.

Mr. Schumann died Tuesday, November 17, 2015, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 24, 1927, in Moonlight, KS, the son of Albert E. and Helen P. Ramseyer Schumann. He attended Kansas State University and Brown Mackie College.

Mr. Schumann began working as a farmer and after college he became the head comptroller for the state of Kansas, retiring in 1991. After retirement he was a real estate agent. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Manhattan, the Gideon’s, Lion’s Club in Paola and Manhattan, 4-H, and AWANAS children’s ministry. Art truly loved the Lord and loved his neighbor as he loved himself. He was very involved with the church, managing the food pantry at Grace Baptist, teaching 3rd and 4th grade Sunday school, mentoring young married couples, prison ministry, and ministering to international students.

He married Doris Marie Hosie December 4, 1949, in Talmage, KS. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include sons, Paul Schumann and wife Cynthia of Denver, CO, David Schumann and wife Barbara of Athens, GA, Tracy Schumann and wife Stephanie of Ashland, KY; daughters, Ann Goodman and husband Corby of Humble, TX, Sharon Struve and husband Jeffrey of Lawrence, KS; former son in law, Michael Albrecht and wife Joni of Emerson, NE; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

A daughter, Mary Albrecht and sister, Alberta Blair preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday.

The family suggests memorials to Manhattan Christian College or charity of donor’s choice, sent in care of Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, 601 Indiana Street, Lawrence, KS 66044.
