Robert Roy Hoey (155211085) was the first of two children born to Samuel Ernest "Sam" Hoey (22671125 )and Erita "Rita" Broussard (161445943), who after his death married Columbus Paul Breaux (161445907) who became Robert's stepfather. They lived in Lafayette, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. Robert was born on 31 Dec 1921, and he passed on 6 June 1954 at the young age of 32. The second child born was Frances M .Hoey-Patterson was his sister.
Robert died instantly in a head-on collision on State Route 43 between Lafayette and Breaux Bridge at 5:45 AM as he was returning to Lafayette. He was a salesman for the Lafayette Wholesale company for the past eight years. According to his nephew, "He was killed instantly and the impact was so hard that he came out of his shoes". The other couple was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. George Hanks was 49 and passenger Cora Celestine was 27.
Robert was a Veteran of World War II, TEC5 CO B 381 INFANTRY 96 DIVISION He received a Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart. A military Honor Guard escorted his body from Delhomme Funeral home to the church. He was buried in Calvary Cemetery in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Robert was married to Alma Meaux (in May 2021 she is now 95 years old) and the couple had three children Robert Hoey, Jr. Gloria Jeanne Hoey and Robert Paul Hoey all of Lafayette. At the time of his death, he was also survived by his Mother, Mrs Columbus Breaux of Lafayette.
