Manuela "Nela" Bazan Castro, 78, was born on June 17, 1925 in Mexico City. She was orphaned at the age of five; her Uncle Suzano Bazan brought her to Nuevo Laredo, where she grew up. She worked as a manicurist in Nuevo Laredo, until she came to Corpus Christi in 1951. She married Bernardo C. Castro, Sr. on Sunday, November 25, 1951 and lived here the rest of her life.

She worked for the Corpus Christi Independent School District for 19 years in the cafeterias at Carroll and Moody High Schools and Fannin Elementary from where she retired in July 1990.

Her husband, Mr. Bernardo C. Castro, Sr. in February 2004 and one daughter, Juanita Castro, precede her in death.

She is survived by four sons, Bernardo B. Castro, Jr. (Dolores) of Arlington, Texas, Luis M. Castro (Irma) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Jose Antonio "Tony" Castro (Maria Clemencia) of San Antonio, Texas and Carlos E. Castro of Corpus Christi, Texas; eleven grandchildren, Sara, Aimee, Benjamin, Jennifer, Amanda, Jessica, Luis, Catherine, Antoinette, Elisha and Marinela; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Alyssa, Joshua and Jesse; one brother, Rodolfo B. Trejo of Tulare, California.

Visitation was held June 9th and 10th. A rosary was recited in the evening on June 10th. All services held at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was celebrated
June 11, 2004 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Entombment followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
