Irene Atkins Montgomery, 93, of Ruston, LA, died Friday, December 17, 2004, at Longleaf Care Center in Ruston. She was born in Manila, AR, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Timberlake. She was married to Cecil Atkins of Hamburg, who was Ashley County Treasurer. In later years, she married James Montgomery of Bonita, LA. She was a retired teacher in Arkansas and Morehouse Parish, LA, and was a member of the Eastern Star and Louisiana Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include one son, Byron Atkins and wife Sarabeth of Monroe, LA.

A memorial service was held Sunday, December 19, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Monroe with Rev. Larry Stafford and Rev. Terry Love officiating. A private burial service was held at Snyder Cemetery near Hamburg with arrangements by Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe..

Honorary pallbearers were James McKoin, Dewayne Haynes, Dr. Bill Timberlake and Doyle Hindman. Memorials may be sent to the Methodist Children's Home in Ruston.
