James Leo Pharis, Sr., 84, a retired commercial fisherman and farmer, died November 20, 2015 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, AL. Visitation is Monday November 23, 2015, 12:00 - 2:00 P.M. at Friars Point Methodist Church in Friars Point, MS. Funeral services are 2:00 P.M. Monday at Friars Point Methodist Church in Friars Point, MS with burial in the Friars Point Cemetery. Meredith-Nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is handling the arrangements.

Mr. Pharis was a member of Friars Point Methodist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Survivors include wife of 38 years Mildred Smith Pharis of Friars Point; sons Leo Pharis (Nita) of Clarksdale, MS, Matthew Pharis (Charlotte) of Lucedale, MS, Mark Pharis (Megan) of Skiatook, OK and Larry Head (Cindy) of Iuka, MS; daughters Mary Elizabeth Wood of North Richland, TX, Sandra Kay Pharis of Long Beach, MS, Hazel Dollar of Diamondhead, MS and April Pharis of North Richland, TX; brother Monroe "Cebe" Pharis (Linda) of Tutwiler, MS; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Bernice Butter Pharis.
