Jesse Clay Evans, Jr., 21, of Marfa died Saturday (13 Dec 1980) in an auto accident 30 miles west of Ozona. Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the Presbyterian Church of Marfa with burial in Marfa Cemetery under the direction of Geeslin Funeral Home.

Evans was born Oct. 5, 1959, in Alpine. He graduated from Marfa High School in 1978. While in high school he was active in all-state rodeo events and served as president of the Future Farmers of America chapter. He attended Western Texas College and was presently attending Sul Ross State University on a rodeo scholarship.

He was a member of the American Junior Rodeo Association, the National High School Rodeo Association, the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association adn the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. A Jess Evans Rodeo Scholarship has been set up at Sul Ross Universuty

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Evans of Marfa; a brother, Sidney Evans of Marfa; a sister, Kimberly Evans of San Marcos; his paternal grandfather, Worth Evans of Marfa; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Othal Davis of Burnet; and an uncle, J.W. Evans of Marfa.
