Basil Schwan passed away on September 17, 2005 at the age of 67 after a short but courageous battle with cancer. His final hours were spent in his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marilyn and four children including Mark Schwan (Lisa); Rebecca Schwan (Chris Valentino); Karla Henning (Raymond) and his youngest daughter, Laura Schwan. Grandchildren include Jenna, Chelsea and McKenna Schwan and Hannah, Noah and Ava Henning. Also survived by brother-in-law Robert Barr who lived with him and Marilyn since 1985. Preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Magdalyn Schwan, sister Rose Bloms and brothers Frank, Joe, August and Tony Schwan. Living siblings include Dan Schwan, Pius Schwan, Ann Dettling, Helen Odegaard and Eva Abel. Basil retired from the State of CA as Assistant Executive Officer, Investments for CAL PERS. He went on to positions as Executive Director of the Washington State Investment Board and the Executive Director for the National Electrical Benefit Fund in Washington, D.C. He retired in 1997 and returned to Roseville, CA. In March, 2005 he and Marilyn moved to Snohomish, WA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 2316 180th SE, Bothel, WA, September 23 at 2:30 P.M. Donations may be made in his honor to the St. Vincent De Paul Society, 139 Riverside Boulevard, Roseville, CA 95678, Providence Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Suite 500, Everett, WA 98201 or Studio 700, Center for the Arts, 700 Douglas Boulevard, Roseville, CA 95678.
