Sarah Frances Garr “Tiny” was born in Jamestown, Kentucky
on March 9, 1940 to Cecil Garr and Cleovus (Nina)
Simpson. Due to the early death of her mother, she was
raised by her father and his wife, Nina, who became her
mother from that time forth. Sarah graduated from Russell
Springs High School in 1959, and soon after, moved to
Cincinnati, Ohio. Shortly after moving to Ohio, she began
attending and joined New St. John Baptist Church where
she met and married Thomas Blunt on June 16, 1960. To
this union was born two daughters, Valarie Francine and
Christina Maria.
Both Sarah and Tom loved New St. John Baptist Church
where she worked tirelessly on several boards and committees.
Her special ministry was sending cards to church
members, family and friends for birthdays and other special
occasions. Sarah would also be seen in various hospitals
cheering up and praying for the infirmed.
Sarah worked various jobs, but loved children and secured
employment working in the Cincinnati Board of Education
as a Teacher’s Aide. Sarah also saw an opportunity to make a
change and found employment with Fifth Third Bank,
where she worked for 27 years. Sarah loved working at the
bank, and was awarded a Certificate of Perfect Attendance
every year for the majority of those years. Sarah retired
from the bank in January, 2010. Later that year, she and
Tom celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
Sarah entered eternal rest on Monday, October 6, 2014.
She leaves to mourn her loss: her husband, Tom; two daughters,
Valarie and Christina; four grandchildren; a brother,
Clifton Taylor of Des Moines, IA; one sister, Grace Taylor
of Lexington, KY; two adopted sisters, Phyllis J. Brown
(Eddie) and Rhonda S. Robinson, both of Cincinnati, OH;
several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives
