US Congressman. He served in the United States House of Representatives from 1903 to 1907 as a representative from Oregon's 2nd Congressional District. He received his formal education from Willamette University in Salem Oregon. Prior to being elected to Congress he served as sheriff of Cook County from 1886 to 1888. He also served as a member of the Oregon State House of Representatives from 1888 to 1889 and the Oregon State Senate from 1900 to 1902. He was appointed postmaster for Cook County, Oregon in 1922, serving until 1934. Following elective office he retired to his farm in Central Oregon where he raised livestock and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death.
