Abner McGehee Jack moved from North Carolina to Green County, Alabama and then on to Kemper County, Mississippi in about 1835. He married Sarah Elizabeth McCaleb on Oct. 15, 1846. Sarah Elizabeth died on the Jack Plantation on Nov. 17, 1863 and is buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery "Old Wahalak" in Scooba, Kemper County, Mississippi.
This union produced three children.

Abner McGehee Jack enlisted in the Confederate States Army on March 6, 1862 as Captain of Company B, 35th Mississippi Infantry. He served with distinction throughout the duration of the war and was discharged on May 4, 1865. He returned home from the war in very poor health and passed away 8 months after arriving.
