Dr. Tobias Peter Tamplet Cambridge was the fourth of eight children of Tobias Cambridge (1754-1808) and Elizabeth Wood Cambridge (1760-1821). He graduated from the Medical Society of Edinburgh in 1807. On June 2, 1808, he married Mrs. Eliza T. Motte, in Charleston, South Carolina. On November 11, 1811, he married Anna Lawson in Philadelphia. His residence at the time of his death was 28 Rue Tivoli, Boulogne Sur-Mer, France.
