She was one of eight children of Henry "Harry" Carroll Farrand and his first wife, Miss Blanche Ogden Nixon, who was a daughter of a Presbyterian minister in the Bronx. When Blanche died, Harry married her older sister, Miss Florence Deacon Nixon when "Auntie Bo" was about 50 years old at the time. Auntie Bo spent a lot of time researching the Ogden ancestors of one of her parents who were prominent in New Jersey in colonial times.

Marie's paternal grandparents were Joseph Steevens Farrand, Jr. and Jane Gaines. Her paternal great grandparents were Joseph Steevens Farrand (1817 to 1882) and his first wife Elizabeth Carroll (1816 to 1860). Joseph had been born in the London, England area to Quaker parents but became an Episcopalian when he came to this country around 1835 to 1840 with his older brother who remained a Quaker. Joseph and his first wife, Elizabeth Carroll, who was born in Ireland, were married in St. George's (Episcopal) Chapel in Manhattan in 1844. After Elizabeth died, Joseph decided to move to Hudson, New York with his six surviving children. A seventh child Frederick, the oldest, died as an infant.

I am descended from the second wife who was Helen Peake (1829 to 1891) who had five children with Joseph. Joseph and his two wives are buried in the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. Marie's parents and paternal grandparents are buried in New Jersey.

Marie married John "Jack" Kerruish and had two daughters who married and had children of their own. Jack and Marie lived in Hamden, Connecticut. They left New Jersey where Marie grew up when Jack got a job in Connecticut and some of her siblings also made the same move. Marie's "Auntie Bo" followed her, Marie's sister Elizabeth followed her and married a Dr. John Duffy, and Marie's unmarried brother Joseph Steevens Farrand died in Connecticut (but he is buried in New Jersey). Early in life he had been a tennis pro but he owned a window company when he was older and lived in Connecticut. Marie's sister Mrs. Elizabeth (Farrand) Duffy is also buried in the same cemetery as Marie Isabel (Farrand) Kerruish in Connecticut.
