Emerson was the son of the late Henry Emerson and Tena Evelyn (Brewer) Cross.

He married Mary Louise Tolbert on October 21, 1941 in Wellsburg, West Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 assigned to the Philippines during WW II. He and Mary moved to Vassar, Michigan in 1954 and finally settled into Flushing in 1956 where they raised their family. He was employed by General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1982. He was also a member of UAW Local 659. He was a member of Flushing Community Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed working on cars and traveling with his beloved, Mary. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, uncle, and friend.

His memory will be cherished by the love of his life, his wife of 74 years, Mary Louise, his children, Larry (Debbie) Cross, Bob (Leann) Cross, Marcia (Michael) Unger, Charles "Chuck" (Doris) Cross; his grandchildren, Christine, Robert, Laurie, Ryan, Tammy, Larry II, Todd, Carrie, Jennifer, Rebecca, Kelsey, and Devin; 24 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; several nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Ruby Opal (Cross) Tolbert, Comer; brothers, Richard Dale and James Delmar Cross.

The family extends special thanks to Amy Torok and LaKetra Hagler for their loving care and attention to Emerson.
