In 1942, he entered the United States Air force. He was a B-17 flight engineer stationed in England during WWII.
He farmed with his father and raised cattle until called into reserve duty in 1950 - 51 in California and was also a member of the American Legion for 60 years.
Emery continued to farm the family homestead and land until his death in 2006.
