Son of Wayland Benedict and Anne Elizabeth Kendrick Benedict. Married Ruth Fulton in 1914 (separated 1931). No children.

Professor of biochemistry, Cornell Medical School. He is best known for discovering Benedict's reagent, a solution that detects certain sugars, and for his marriage to Ruth Fulton, who became the pioneering anthropologist Ruth Benedict.
