Services for Vestal L. Patterson, 68, Ozawkie, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at First United Presbyterian Church in Oskaloosa. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. Patterson died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, at a Topeka hospital.

He was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Perry, the son of Vernie Lee and Stella Irene Sharkey Patterson. He was a 1954 graduate of Oskaloosa High School and attended Kansas University for one year.

He had lived in Ozawkie for four years, moving from Oskaloosa and Tulsa, Okla.

Mr. Patterson worked in telecommunications and cable television for many years, establishing cable television service in small communities. He retired in 1993.

He was a U.S. Marines veteran, serving from 1957 to 1960. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 225 in Ozawkie.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Sutton, Bixby, Okla., and Annatte Loehr, Tulsa; a brother, Bernard, Oskaloosa; and three grandchildren.
