Newark--Thomas E. Hornsby, 89, died Saturday December 6, 2003 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
At the request of Mr. Hornsby, all services will be private.

Mr. Hornsby was born Feb. 12, 1914, In Odd, WVa., son of James and Mary Burks Hornsby, and worked in the coal mines there for about 20 years. Mr. Hornsby came to Newark in 1955, where he worked as a machine operator for Garlock Co., retiring in 1974 at the age of 58. He had a love for animals and enjoyed working on automobiles with his son.
He will be missed by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Lisa Hornsby of Newark., grandchildren Craig (Jamie) Hornsby, Emily Marie (Jacob) Gray, and their mother Cheryl Hornsby; two sisters Polly McBride and Piney McBride, many nieces and nephews; a longtime friend, Mary June and his cat, Boots.
He was predeceased by his wife Grathel (Hurley) Hornsby; and his brothers, Oliver Hornsby, Charles Hornsby and Basil Hornsby, sisters, Pearl Hornsby, Myrtle Hornsby and Sylvia Hornsby His three sisters died at very young ages.
