Born in Dedemsuaart, the Netherlands, on May 22, 1919, she was one of six boys and four girls born to Gen and Arendue Berends.
Educated as a nurse, she served throughout World War II in that capacity in occupied Holland. After the war, while serving in the Dutch Armed Forces, she was stationed in Indonesia and other locations. Following that service, she became a nurse-flight attendant for KLM, the Dutch National Airline. There she was a member of the Royal Flight Crew for the Queen of Holland.
She met Bill Fancher on a train while traveling in Scotland, and they were married in 1977. For 29 years they enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, and being part of the greater Walton community, where she was an active member of the Women of the Church at Christ Episcopal Church.
Recently predeceased by her husband; she is survived by three brothers and two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews living in Europe.
