Northumberland, Rev. Adrian J. Shearer, 68, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2015 at Sunbury Community Hospital Sunbury, Pa.
Adrian was born on August 8, 1947 in Hanover, the son of the late Sterling C. and Velma M. (nee Albright) Shearer. He married Joyce M. Rohrbaugh on August 31, 1968.
Adrian graduated Susquehannock High School in 1965, attended York County Junior College and then served in the U.S. Navy as a corpsman with the Marines during the Vietnam War (1966 to 1970). He returned to York College to complete his bachelor's degree in Behavior Science with Joyce. He then attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg from 1974 to 1978 and was ordained to the gospel ministry June 11, 1978.
Adrian served as pastor of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of York Springs from 1978 to 1984 before coming to Trinity Lutheran Church of Sunbury from 1984 to his retirement in 2007. Since his retirement he served as interim pastor of numerous local churches.
Adrian loved camping, latch hook, photography, cooking, canning, gardening (reflections of his life on the farm) and being the judge of elections. His interest and love of music lead him to play in a local band all of his adult life and with the Sunbury City Band for thirty-one years.
Adrian is survived by his wife Joyce M. Shearer of Northumberland; his children, Eric M. and Julie A. Shearer of Northumberland and Deborah J. Schultz of Mechanicsburg; three grandchildren, George F., William F. and Laura F. Shearer; sisters, Vivian F. and Eric Roberts of Neudorf, SK, Camillia K. and Steven Gantz of Glenville, Pa. and Pamela Shearer and Gus of Gerrardstown W.Va.; two nieces; three nephews; and five great-nieces and nephews. Ralph was predeceased by his parents; and an infant daughter, Tanya Michelle Shearer.
Friends and family may call at the St. John's Lutheran Church, Third and Queen Sts., Northumberland, on Sunday December 6, 2015 from 5 to 7:55 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with Bishop Robert Dreisen, the Rev. Patricia Pittsnogle, and the Rev. John Fenton (retired) officiating. A graveside interment will be at the St. Jacob's Stone Church Cemetery Glen Rock, Pa. on December 7, 2015.
In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Adrian may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church 3rd and Queen Sts. Northumberland, PA 17857 or the Sunbury City Band. Arrangements are made by the David T. Zweier Funeral Home, Inc. 157 Chestnut St. Sunbury, Pa.
